Furniture & Floor Polishes

  • ¼ cup of Olive Oil
  • ¼ cup of lemon juice

The best way to polish an item is to use an equal mixture of olive oil and lemon juice and apply with a soft cloth to furniture. Mayonnaise is also highly effective.

Dishwashing Liquid

  • 1/4 cup soap flakes
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1/4 cup glycerin
  • 1/2 tsp. lavender or lemon essential oil

Mix soap flakes and water in a medium bowl or glass jug and stir until the soap is dissolved and let cool
Stir in glycerin and essential oil
As it cools it will form a loose gel
Stir then pour into a bottle or squeezie container

All Purpose Cleaner

This can be used on most surfaces and for so many areas of the home. To give the cleaner a beautiful scent when cleaning just add 10 drops of essential oil, which will make the house smell amazing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon soap (plant based is good)
  • 1 litre hot water
  • ¼ cup white distilled vinegar
  • 1 lemon squeezed
  • 10 drops of essential oil for fragrance 

Mix together and pour into a cleaner trigger spray bottle shake carefully until mixed. Then use as a spray and wipe down surfaces.

Basic Gluten Free Loaf

2½ cups blanched almond flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 tsp bicarb of soda
3 eggs beaten
1 tsp stevia powder
½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar
pinch sea salt

Preheat oven to 180 degrees celsius
Grease a small loaf pan
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl
In a separate bowl place eggs and apple cider vinegar and combine
Add wet ingredients to dry and stir
Spoon the mixture into loaf pan
Bake for 50 mins until set
Cool on wire rack

Supercharged Granola

Sometimes I go to sleep at night dreaming of breakfast.  The most important meal of the day should never be a lackluster event. Life is too short to have can't haves and if you’re bored with soggy cereal, tired of tasteless toast and over processed sugar, you’ll love this revolutionary breakfast recipe; bursting with nutrition, whilst offering a naturally sweet, oven-roasted flavour and crunchiness.

Have you noticed than when you have a dull, narrow range of breakfast options, that it's a sure-fire way to set yourself up for a habit of grab-and-go snacking throughout the day?.  Looking at it simply, if you haven’t filled yourself with the nutritional fuel needed to power through the morning, it’s inevitable that your body will hunger for the most readily available, convenient snack option that you can get our hands on. This will usually involve a sugar loaded treat, or a packaged, preservative filled nibbly;  both seemingly fulfilling options that will in truth send your blood sugar levels on a rollercoaster ride, as well as causing many other unfavorable effects on our health.

To really get our investigative brains working, and begin to open our eyes to the ingredient lists of many ‘healthy’ supermarket cereals and breads, it’s astonishing to find the amount of sneaky additives that are hidden in natural and seemingly healthy breakfast cereals. Additives that are weakening our immune systems, placing unneeded burdens on digestion, creating inflammation, and completely contradicting the real purpose of breakfast; to give us the physical and mental energy that we need to sustainably face the day.

Storage OptionsPre-paring a breakfast at home with whole foods is a more valuable option than buying from supermarket shelves and this little bowl of crunch can be stored and kept in a sealed container in your kitchen cupboard for weeks.

What could be better than a delicious, crunchy, wholesome breakfast selection; intentionally created to incorporate a whopping amount of vitamins and minerals, giving you a brilliant start to your day.

This gorgeous granola will keep your tummy satisfied, as it  is packed with plant based protein. The pseudo grain Quinoa is beneficial at breakfast time, as it contains a balanced set of amino acids, making it an unusually complete food. Buckwheat groats will give you the energy to help you power through your day, as they are considered one of the best known sources of high biological protein in the plant kingdom.  Buckwheat is rich in the bioflavonoid rutin, which is famous for assisting blood sugar control; making it a remarkable ingredient to prevent you from grabbing that can of soft drink during your lunch break or snacking on a sugar laden treat.

The reason I use cinnamon in this recipe is because of its impressive blood sugar stabilization skills. Studies show that cinnamon slows the rate at which the stomach is emptied after meals, therefore reducing the rise in blood sugar after eating foods high in carbohydrates.  Compounds in cinnamon have been found to inhibit an enzyme that inactivates insulin receptors,  significantly increasing the cells’ ability to use glucose. Adding this powerful little spice to your breakfast is a great way to maintain sustainable energy levels and add an exotic flavour at the same time.

I hope that I have convinced you not to settle for a factory-produced, nutrition-less breakfast with more grit and gravel than the bottom of a birdcage.  If I have then why not give this oven roasted, crunchy, Supercharged Granola a try and notice the immense difference that it makes in your energy levels? No longer will you be dragging your feet in the mornings, but now you will find that you'll bounce out the door!

Supercharged Granola

  • 100 gms quinoa flakes
  • 100 gms brown rice flakes
  • 25 gms buckwheat groats
  • 50 gms pepitas
  • 25 gms sesame seeds
  • 50 gms almond flakes
  • 50 gms sunflower seeds
  • 25 gms linseeds
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 60 mls caramelized ACV (recipe below*)
  • 1 tsp alcohol free vanilla essence

Method:

  • Set oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  • Measure ingredients and place in mixing bowlMeasure Ingredients
  • Add cinnamon and nutmeg and stir
  • Add vanilla essence and caramelized ACV and stir to mix
  • Place in a baking dish
Mixing Ingredients
  • Bake in middle shelf of oven for 40 minutes
  • Stir after 20 mins and correct flavours
  • Remove and let cool then place in sealed container
The End Result

Caramelized ACV (recipe *)

  • 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tsp powdered stevia or 20 drops liquid stevia (plus extra depending upon sweetness required)
  • Place on stove and boil down to half on a medium heat
  • Remove and let cool

Urban Cleanse

Brown Rice Crackers

These wholegrain brown rice crackers have no additives or preservatives and taste absolutely delicious.  The wheat-free tamari and seaweed variety is my fave!  A great snack when you feel peckish.

I receive mountains of requests from companies and businesses who have health related products and services asking me to endorse them on my website. Not all the products I am sent are entirely gluten-wheat-yeast-dairy or sugar-free so rest assured I won't be reviewing these products here, as I like to be very picky about what content goes up on the site. I will only review a product if I eat it, read it, or use it myself and think that it has a health benefit. It needs to be completely natural with no added preservatives or additives.

These days, there are so many gluten-free products available to purchase from major grocery stores to health food stores and online retailers. It's really important for me to note than many of these products still contain preservatives, chemicals, sugar, unatural ingredients and artificial sugars to make up for the lack of gluten and these ingredients still provoke an immune reaction in certain people. Our bodies are not designed to process these artificial ingredients and subsequently the toxins build up within our bodies and cause damage to our organs and cells.

Vitamin Rich

Eggs

Eggs were given a really hard time in the eighties but now they are back and more super than ever and that is great news for egg lovers. It has been proven that eating eggs will not give you high cholesterol as originally reported. In fact, eggs are full of high-quality proteins, vitamins and minerals and should be a part of any healthy diet.  An egg is a compact package of nutrition which provides every vitamin except vitamin C and a host of essential minerals as well as vitamin B12, and folate. Eggs are also a rich source of vitamin K and just one egg contains one-third of the daily recommended amount for women.  I 

recommend two or three servings of eggs per week.

 

Spinach

Spinach is my favourite super food and I am saving the best for last!. It contains a cross section of phytonutrients and antioxidants including vitamin K, coenzyme Q10, folate, iron, and the carotenoids - lutein, zeaxanthin. Spinach is also an excellent source of vitamin C, beta carotene and vitamin E. An average serve of natures finest super food provides 5 mg of vitamin C, which is an eighth of the recommended daily intake. It is also full of antioxidants.

Natural Probiotics

Garlic

Garlic has been proven to slow the growth of harmful bacteria, yeasts and fungi. Fresh garlic is always the best choice if you are seeking its anti-bacterial or anti-viral qualities a good alternative to antibiotics.  Both fresh and dried garlic have been shown to lower LDL-cholesterol and lower high blood pressure.

 

Kefir

Kefir whilst most yogurts contain one to three types of probiotics, which are fantastic at aiding digestion and providing us with beneficial internal flora, kefir has a whopping ten and the great thing about it is that it also contains prebiotics, which help probiotics do their job and become more effective. High in vitamin D, essential for bone growth and development kefir helps the immune system and protects against tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, hypertension and some forms of cancer. For people who are lactose-intolerant it is a much easier form of dairy to digest.

 

Ginger

Ginger has been around for centuries as a medicinal aid and today ginger's medical uses include the treatment of nausea and morning sickness during pregnancy, motion sickness, indigestion, and bloating.  Ginger is also used to help reduce the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis by taking a daily dose of ginger extract sufferers have seen fantastic results.

Nuts

Nuts are not only yummy but also contain healthy oils, fibre, vitamins and minerals, potent phytochemicals and the amino acid arginine. Nuts are very beneficial for heart health and if you add a handful of nuts, five times a week to your diet it will decrease your risk of coronary heart disease.  Walnuts are one of the best plant sources of protein. They are rich in fibre, B vitamins, magnesium, and antioxidants such as Vitamin E.  If you are concerned about mould and myco-toxins in nuts be sure to soak them in sea salt and filtered water overnight and then dry in the oven at 50 degrees Celsius for a yummy crispy snack. I love to make sea salt and apple cider vinegar crispy almonds they are divine.

 

Wild Salmon

Wild Salmon is high in protein and minerals such as iodine, potassium and zinc. Salmon contains omega-3 fats which are the ultimate anti-aging nutrient. They are also a large part of the structure of your brain and nerve tissues.  Omega 3 fats are beneficial for good eyesight. The best kind of salmon to eat is Wild Salmon as it contains lots of vitamin D and selenium for healthy hair, skin, nails and bones. For optimum health benefits salmon should be consumed at least three times a week.
