What do you get when you film a whole lot of health-loving, grooving and inspiring people and put these videos into one platform?
Food Matters Australia's FMTV, of course!
It’s basically the Netflix of the health world. Don't fight me on this.
I can honestly say that Food Matters Australia changed my life in more ways than you can imagine.
After being diagnosed with a non specific auto-immune disease and fibromyalgia a few years ago, I was accustomed to being in pain, feeling lethargic and depressed. I was prescribed to a cocktail of steroids, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. Suffice to say, I wasn't feeling too flash hot. I just knew there was more to this; something in me (hello gut instinct!) saying there was something else I could try to keep the inflammatory symptoms under control. I was waiting for my sign from the universe... and just like that, there it was.
A close friend of mine called Cleo dropped in to visit me one day and with her a came the Food Matters DVD. It really opened my eyes to the concept of using food as medicine, a topic I hadn't really explored or even considered before then. As I continued watching this mind-blowing DVD, I had a huge turning point. I started to cry. It made me feel extremely vulnerable to think about the possibilities. It was scary to even think about it. I had an internal spark (that gut instinct again) convincing me that this was the right path for me, even though it felt like no one else was on my side. Hello Universe!
I became truly convinced that I could use food as medicine. I did my own research and trialled what I could, to see whether I could really heal myself without the use of prescribed drugs. Don't get me wrong, prescription medicine does have a huge place in the world and I'm not going to discount that. I just personally believe that also looking towards preventative medicine with eating foods that nurture, calm and heal rather than treating the aftermath of our diets high in inflammatory foods that block our bodies natural processes.
From this point onwards, my health improved now to the point that I'm medication free and living a more energised life; good nutrition being one of the major parts of my improvement. I also found that through healing my gut, lowering bodily inflammation, exercising and meditating daily, I was journeying towards wellness. I wouldn't be where I am today without Food Matters and they mean a lot to me.
