Gutmeal (Oatmeal with a gut-healing twist)

There’s something that’s just so nourishing about starting the day with a big bowl of oatmeal. A spoon of porridge on a colder morning is like a warm hug for your insides!

Oats are amazing for lowering our overall cholesterol levels, especially the ‘bad’ cholesterol known as LDL (low-density lipoprotein). High levels of LDL raise your risk of developing blood clots which can lead to heart diseases. While not all cholesterol is bad, LDL is one we need to look out for.

They're packed full of soluble fibre, which reduces the absorption of LDL cholesterol in the blood. This means every morning you start your day off with a bowl of porridge, you’re fighting heart and cardiovascular disease!

Oats are one of the yummiest gut-healthy foods out there.  Not only are they delicious, they boost some beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract which can provide serious relief in cases of irritable bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation.

No bowl of oats is finished without beautiful berries. Berries have proven to help your brain think better and additionally, the antioxidant-rich fruits are great for maintaining control over our muscles – which is so important when it comes to ageing. If you want to get amongst the berry madness, why not try my Supercharged Summer Popsicles or Strawberry Teacakes?

I've combined the magical powers of oats with my Love Your Gut Powder for some extra gut-boosting love. Hi Lee Where in Australia can I buy GLUTEN free oats – I am coeliac and some oats that claim to be gluten free (USA imports) are not.

  2. Lauren says:

HI Lee, is this bircher recipe ok to eat while on the 4 Week Heal Your Gut Program?

  3. Jasmine says:

So many sites and articles say to avoid oats, but oatmeal (and brown rice) never gives me a bad reaction unlike accidentally consuming sugar, wheat or dairy. So I am sticking to it! Thanks for the recipe.

  4. Rose says:

Hi Lee how long do you soak the oats for? Overnight? Love to try this recipe. Thanks 🙂

    • Lee says:

You don’t need to soak them if they are instant oats but if you want to soak oats you can soak them for an hour or two. Lee

Hi Lee, so happy to read this as loving my wheat free oats. As I’m sensitive to treenuts and havent explored soy milk response yet I’m tolerating a lactose free cows milk by Liddells on my oats. Cannot eat cultured dairy. Do you think the lfmilk is ok? Concerned calcium levels as still testing crucifers.
    Thnx Gaye

I’ve been on an auto immune, gut healing diet for about a year. Oats have been a lifesaver. I like the taste of oatmilk more than any of the others. Oatmilk ice cream with granola, cream sauces, even yogurt.

  8. Hi Lee,

Can this be made in advance for meal prep and then stored in the fridge and reheated in the microwave, if so how long do you think it would last?

    Thanks 🙂 x

    Annette

    • Lee says:

Hello 🙂 Yes you can do that. It would last a couple of days in the fridge. I would top it up with water or milk of choice when you reheat it. lee x
