The daily ritual of cleansing and nourishing my skin is such a special part of my day, and an important part of any self-care ritual.

Having travelled to India as inspiration for my Ayurvedic cookbook Eat Right for Your Shape, I found it so exciting when I stumbled across this beautiful Ayurvedic line of skin-care products. What is even more exciting is that it completely compliments my lifestyle and philosophies.

The Chopra Center's PryaDerm System products are all natural and formulated with rejuvenating Ayurvedic herbs specifically selected for their successful ageing benefits.

FullSizeRender

Using the right skincare is imperative as you age because much like our digestive system, our skin absorbs every single bit of product that we smooth on top of it, and it heads directly into our bloodstream.

That's why I much prefer to indulge in skincare derived from a natural source. When we use skin care products with highly unnatural chemicals, our body has to absorb and process them. It makes sense that if we use natural products like these, our bodies find it much easier to assimilate and utilise the Ayurvedic herbs to build beautiful new skin cells and to moisturise, smooth and revitalise the skin.

In Sanskrit, Prya means beloved while Derm derives from the Greek root for skin. This beloved skin care range contains a cleanser, facial mist, day lotion, night cream and hand salve and they smell absolutely heavenly.

The Rejuvenating Cleansing Mousse is light and airy and contains organic aloe, lavender and alma it glides over the skin and is effortless to wash off leaving your skin feeling fresh and cleansed.

FullSizeRender[1]

Use the Facial Mist next to tone and hydrate. It includes soothing organic aloe, fragrant lavender and salvia (not saliva which I read twice thinking SALIVA??? Whose saliva??.

The Skin Brightening Day Lotion is used in the morning and contains saffron, a wonderful medicinal spice which has been used since ancient times to brighten and purify the skin. I also use it in my recipes one of my favourites being my gorgeous pumpkin and Saffron Soup.

At night, the Rejuvenating Night Creme is wonderful for restoring your skin as you sleep.  It features Ayurvedic herbs such as Amla, Haritake and Turmeric that promote rejuvenation and regeneration.

The Hand Salve is the final product in the system and it it wonderful on the skin.  I use this daily and I find it nourishes and protects my hands and after applying they feel richly moisturised but not sticky.  The salve blends into the skin really well.  This is a great product for the hands which often show the first signs of ageing when forgotten about.

Siberian Cedar Nut Oil is a beautiful oil made from Cedar Trees that can be used unheated in and on food as a dressing or also as a beautiful medicinal body oil.

Through the process of oil extraction, the nuts produced by the majestic cedar trees are crushed in-between pieces of wood, ensuring the oil has no contact with metal and keeps it’s formidable properties, this process is also known as crushing,

A truly traditional technique, oil extraction is still done by hand with all natural tools to enhance the wonderful density and flavour of the oil.

Being a precious natural source of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids, this wonderfully luscious oil is unique to the market and a great new addition to your kitchen or daily beauty routine.

Studies have shown that Siberian Cedar Nut Oil can not only help you maintain a healthy weight when consumed, but can also soothe symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), heartburn and gastritis, promote the growth of healthy bacteria in our gut, as well as leave your skin beautifully glowing.

This medicinal oil is a good choice of oils for dressings, as it has a wonderful woody and soft flavour yet is rich in minerals.

The oil assists the digestive process and helps to heal ulcerations or damage caused to the digestive tract.  It is also reported to stimulate the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria so it's a great food to add to your gut healing tool kit.

You can create a golden supercharged dressing just by combining it with lemon and garlic and pouring it over your favourite salad, it pairs particularly well with a fresh garden salad.

Or why not add it to your baking for a distinct and aromatic nutty aroma?

Cork Leaf Yoga Mat

Written by lee on . Posted in Natural Products, Reviews, Travel & Lifestyle

Being a Yoga instructor and a real believer in practicing yoga to improve health, yoga mats are a beloved tool of mine and one I like to use frequently in my weekly yoga teaching.

Cork Leaf Yoga mats are a new breed of mats and made from all natural resources; cork-backed with natural tree rubber and are 100% biodegradable. Eco, self-cleaning, biodegradable, non-slip, and natural, they are all the things you want a yoga mat to be; soft yet supportive and offering a whole host of wonderful attributes.

The beautiful eco-friendly mat is made entirely from 100% natural cork, and constructed from natural Cork tree means that Cork Leaf mats naturally disinfect. Cork kills all bacteria growing on it, as well as mold, leaving your yoga mat smelling sweet and fragrant after every session of yoga.

Being a member of Carbon Neutral Plant-A-Tree Initiative shows how dedicated and committed Cork Leaf are to giving back and being as environmentally sustainable as possible.

This is a real bonus for me, as I love using equipment that is naturally sourced and working with manufacturers who are doing their bit with our precious planet preservation in mind.

Although you may be sceptical about the comfort of a cork mat, as soon as you step on the mat, you can feel the slightly spongy support beneath your toes.

Boasting a robust organic build with heavenly comfort, you can feel that this yoga mat is meant to last and will.

Step forth with the knowledge that you’re helping mother earth whilst you practice and that CORK LEAF is an initiative to help minimise the negative ecological impact of yoga in Australia.

Cork Leaf mats are a great go-to mat to cover all of your natural bases.

Green Nutritionals Australian SuperGrass

Written by lee on . Posted in Food & Drinks, Ingredients, Natural Products, Reviews

FullSizeRender

When it comes to being healthy an alkaline body is key, sometimes it’s hard to keep your unique body alkaline with all of the foods available on the supermarket shelves. From fast food, processed and refined carbohydrates to ready meals stating to be ‘healthy’ it really is a minefield out there.

If you’re on a journey to rebalance your bodies alkalinity in order to restore wellness and health, or if you’re looking to maintain your glowing 7.4 on the ph scale, a green powder supplement is a great way to do so without having to overhaul your daily diet.

I’m a huge advocate of a balanced lifestyle, not being too strict as to stress about what you’re putting in your body, but making sure that what goes in is healthy and nourishing. And so I’m aware that some healthy foods I digest on a daily basis, like dairy products and meat, can increase the acidity in my body.

Green Supergrass is a supercharged way to lower your body’s acidity. With a daily smoothie including this powerful leaf based nutrition supplement can really help me manage ph levels.

I love the fact that this product is simple yet uses three of the most potent young leaves and mixes them together to create a perfect alkalising blend of nutritional supplement full of amazing green goodness.

These potent young guns are Barley Grass, Wheat Grass and Alfalfa Grass. All containing powerful antioxidants from vitamin B1 (a memory boosting antioxidant), Vitamins C and E (antioxidants which provide protection to cells against free radical damage), Vitamins K and U.

All grasses being extremely alkaline means that digesting them can help keep the body's alkaline and acidity ratio balanced. Our cells cannot adequately function if the pH range (which measures alkaline and acidity) is out.

Most processed foods are acidic, and when we consume too many of them, the acidity/alkaline balance is upset. This may result in possible fatigue and low energy levels.

I love that Green Nutritionals have left out the 'filler' ingredients, such as bulk fibre and insignificant amounts of herbs and synthetic vitamins that provide little to no health benefits, ensuring that gram for gram you receive the most nutrient-rich and bio-available super food supplement possible.

Green SUPERGRASS is produced sustainably and in harmony with nature and that always gets my seal of approval!  You can find out more about it here.

The Chopra Centre Ayurvedic Remedies

Written by lee on . Posted in Food & Drinks, Natural Products, Reviews

Ayurnas – Ayurvedic Cold and Allergy Remedy

FullSizeRender 3

Throughout the seasons, cold and flu symptoms and environmental allergies can surface, and really knock you for six.

In wintertime, colds and flu can be at their worst and in springtime, many people can suffer from seasonal allergies.

Some of the first signs of a seasonal allergy are runny nose, red eyes, congestion, sneezing, bronchial irritation and itchy skin. This allergic reaction is generally due to an inflammatory response within the body, so it’s important to have a low irritant lifestyle and consume a diet which is low in inflammatory foods and that means cutting down on sugar-filled and processed foods, pesticide-laden fruits and vegetables, caffeine, unhealthy fats and alcohol.

If allergies have gotten you down and you want to relieve them naturally, The Chopra Centre offers a range of supporting natural oils and treatments to help abate the symptoms of colds and flus and allergies. Ayurnas is a tri-doshic oil treatment that is used at The Chopra Center to help relieve cold and allergy symptoms such as congestion, dryness, and post-nasal drip as well as stress related symptoms such as headaches and muscle tension.

It’s created with a customised-blend using ingredients such as organic safflower oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, vitamin E, infused with the natural aromas of eucalyptus, rose, sandalwood, peppermint, lavender, and basil to help to open nasal passages and clear the head.

To use Ayurnas oil, all you need to do is simply place a few drops of the oil on your baby finger and apply it inside your nostril. Then gently breathe in through your nose and repeat on the other side.

This can be repeated four to six times per day.

Biochavan – Ayurvedic Rejuvenating Antioxidant Herbal Jam

FullSizeRender 5

If you’re looking for a healthy way to start the day, why not try a spoonful of nutritive jam spread onto gluten free toast? This is a special kind of jam though, and one which is not loaded with sugar or preservatives and it’s full of rejuvenating and life enhancing qualities. In fact it has long been referred to as The Elixir of Life.

Often referred to as chyawanprash, Biochavan is a valuable herbal dietary supplement which is popular in Ayurvedic nutrition. The Chopra Centre Herbal Jam contains amalaki, a Sanskrit term for the Indian gooseberry or amla. It’s a greenish-yellow fruit which possesses innumerable health benefits and is used by Ayurvedic practitioners as a wonder herb to treat health ailments as it does not present any unwanted or harmful effects.

Amalaki, the primary ingredient of the herbal jam is a rich natural source of vitamin C and contains bioflavonoids, flavones, polyphenols and carotenoids. It’s a powerful antioxidant for the body and boasts the ability to cleanse and detox, improve your digestive functioning, and increase your immunity.

The Chopra Centre Herbal Jam has a sweet and pungent taste and it is blended forty-one rejuvenating herbs, notably Ashwagandha and Shatavari, both traditional Ayurvedic healing herbs.

It’s recommended to take one teaspoon a day, and you can either spread it onto crackers or gluten free toast, eat it directly from the spoon or dissolve it in warm water or milk of choice.

Vedamune® – Ayurvedic Herbal Immuno-Support

FullSizeRender 4

According to the philosophies and principles of Ayurveda, your immune system and natural resistance to germs and disease is directly related to the state of your health and wellness. Being free of disease means that your doshas are in balance, your five senses are working properly and your digestive fire or agni is balanced, resulting in the appropriate functioning of cleansing systems in your body. Once this happens, and when the mind, body, and spirit are in harmony then a person is not susceptible disease.

Vedamune® is a Chopra Centre immune boosting supplement which contains powerful Ayurvedic herbs such as ashwagandha, guduchi and amalaki, each with their own rejuvenating properties. If you, like many people suffer from a busy lifestyle or low functioning immune system, this completely natural herbal supplement can help to promote wellness, strengthen your immune system and support your body’s natural defences. For many people stress can be a damaging force to your immune system and can result in health issues arising.

If you sense your immune system is not functioning as well as it should, as a result of stress, fatigue, or exposure to germs or viruses, it is recommended that you take Vedamune® twice daily for up to 7 days to naturally boost your defences and improve your digestive fire.

Barberyn Reef Resort Sri Lanka

Written by lee on . Posted in Natural Products, Reviews, Travel & Lifestyle

Barberyn Reef, a luxury resort set amidst a luscious and picture perfect island landscape has one major goal and that is to improve the health of its guests through authentic and traditional Ayurvedic practices.

Ayurveda, an ancient healing system, originating in India, takes
a holistic approach to feeling well and living in harmony with yourself and your surroundings. Think of it as a union of the mind, body, senses and soul with three main objectives: to prevent disease, to encourage wellbeing and to promote longevity.

Conscious Cuisineimage9-1

Through nutrition, yoga and meditation, it focuses on treating the individual as a whole rather than a specific issue or disease, so that you can achieve balance and good health, not only in your physical body, but also in your mind and spirit.

Barberyn is a wonderful facilitator for the Ayurvedic way of life and an antidote to the fast paced world that many of us find ourselves living in. The sprawling resort, nestled quietly on the south east coast of Sri Lanka in Beruwala, is a purpose built “sanctuary for the soul” and a place where you can rejuvenate your mind body and spirit with undivided attention and without personal effort or trying. The only ‘doing’ required by you is to close your eyes and gently surrender to it’s all natural nurturing ways.

At Barberyn Reef, four of the essential Ayurvedic healing philosophies are applied very simply and traditionally, giving you the opportunity to slow down and enjoy each enriching experience as a simple pleasure.

Simple, Traditional Decor

You’ll relish in the most wonderfully homegrown and delicious nourishing cuisine, tailor made to suit your unique dosha, you’ll engage in individualized cleansing and detoxification processes to purify the body, and enjoy warm oil massages administered by Ayurvedic nurses which not only melt away your tension but more deeply, eliminate energetic blockages in the body.

One of the more physical aspects to Barberyn are the healing yoga and meditation classes to help you to slip into a feeling of serenity and emerge with an insightful and multi-layered physical and emotional personal transformation.

Everything you experience at Barberyn, from the pulverised dahl body scrub to the healing herbal bath is delivered in the most traditional sense, allowing you to access your innate inner wisdom and feel very much in tune with yourself and your surroundings. It is in that moment when true transformation occurs.

One of my biggest discoveries was that there is a big difference between feeling refreshed and energized after experiencing a spa resort, compared to the treatment and nurturing that Barberyn is dedicated to offering every single one of its guests.  I hadn’t experienced anything on this level of genuine authenticity and for me Barberyn symbolises a profound and life changing environment and a place where true healing can be experienced on a number of different levels. The focus is not on pampering but more on therapeutic health results.

Ayurvedic Nurses in Uniform

Another impactful unearthing was being immersed in a structured and fully equipped Ayurvedic hospital which gave me a better insight and understanding of the workings of each practice on a variety of people with different conditions. I discovered these first hand and by talking to other guests.

The Herbal Pharmacy at Barberyn

image8-1

An interesting eye-opening surprise from Barberyn was that I came away more comfortable in the knowledge that fifty percent of true health and healing comes from within and the remainder can be delivered in whatever form works within your own philosophies. Whether it is western medicine or alternative practices, it doesn’t matter. I believe personally that what has had the most impact on my health at a fundamental level is Ayurveda and so the whole experience completely resonated with me.

Natural Medicines

image7

When you arrive at Barberyn, you’re given an in-depth consultation by an Ayurvedic doctor who remains your doctor for the duration of your stay. Your pulse will be checked and blood pressure monitored, your tongue will be inspected and a medical history taken and from there you’re placed onto a specific treatment plan to help you achieve balance and healing. You’re given herbal medications in the form of decoctions, potions, pills and powders concocted from the onsite herbal gardens and a list of treatments and your treatment times.

A typical day consists of a two-hour yoga class at 6am followed by a spectacular nutritious breakfast by the water, with Ayurvedic doctors milling around to help you with your food choices and further information sits beside each dish; a description of its Ayurvedic balancing attributes.

A Personally Aligned Ayurvedic Breakfast

Then it’s off to the treatment centre where you'll indulge in warm oil massages delivered by two skilful and nimble-fingered practitioners guaranteed to send you off into a sleepy, groggy, zombie-like trance.  Afterwards, you're given a variety of treatments designed specifically for you, I had a rice milk and herb heated herbal compress which soothed my tired and knotted muscles.  You'll almost certainly be given an eye treatment which after the initial gooiness from the ghee will leave your eyes sparkling and fresh.

Warm Oil Massages

You’re then whisked off to lie in an atmospheric herbal garden where you're wrapped in sticky oil and herbal patches which are gently and carefully applied to different areas of your body, with fresh herbal cleansers applied to your face and cucumbers to your eyes.  Once you're covered in oil and herbs, you're then draped with muslin to allow everything to absorb to it's full potential, and it's right here where you find yourself succumbing to thoroughly relaxing and drifting off to sleep with the sounds of the birds in the garden.  Whilst still a little drowsy, a nurse will direct you to an area where you're bathed in a therapeutic herbal bath reminiscent of childhood bathing, the warm water flowing over you from the earthenware cup.  You're then patted-dry and wrapped carefully in a clean treatment cloth.

By now your tummy is grumbling and you're about ready for a delicious lunch in the communal lunch room overlooking the water.

Vata Balancing Lunch

This is followed by a daily acupuncture session based on your condition and then a swim in the generous salt water pool or if you prefer to laze on one of the loungers by the ocean as it laps gently against the shore lulling you into a state of complete relaxation, the choice is entirely yours.

Salt Water Pool

By the way if you’re feeling thirsty between meals there's a cute juice bar where you can order cucumber juices or drink tea and talk to other guests.

At 4pm you have the opportunity to inhale deeply at another yoga class, or find yourself with turmeric stained hands in a cooking class with a couple of the chefs from the kitchen. I chose the cooking class which was fun and we made four or five very simple yet delicious dishes that I will most certainly be recreating at home. I still can't stop thinking about the garlic and fenugreek curry. That dish was mouth watering.

Guys, you had me at Garlic Curry!

image12
Along with the treatments and activities, you might like to get out and about and sign up for one of the complimentary excursions into town or boat trip to the nearby river where you can spot some of the native wildlife.

IMG_8466

After seven enriching and relaxing days at Barberyn my soul was doing cartwheels on the beach and I felt energized and restored.

Ideally you should spend at least ten days to really experience its healing benefits. I can’t wait to go back next year.

Natural Instinct Skincare

Written by lee on . Posted in Natural Products, Reviews, Travel & Lifestyle

FullSizeRender

For me, the Natural Instinct skincare range ticks all the right boxes.

That’s because it's created entirely from certified organic extracts, pure essential oils and lovely plant derived, truly natural ingredients.

Considering the high quality of the products I’m also very surprised at how affordable they are. It's also pleasing to know that I’m supporting an environmentally conscious brand and one that takes its ingredients seriously.

The range is quite vast; with plenty of options targeting dry, normal and even sensitive skins.

The body washes, shampoo and conditioners come in handy pump bottles, and so far my skin and hair has rejoiced at the moisturising qualities. I’ve been using the products for four weeks now and have seen a difference to the shine and texture of my hair.

Many natural hair products are especially drying, but these products hit the mark. My hair is soft and silky without a greasy build up; exactly what I’m looking for in a shampoo and conditioner.

One of my all time favourite products in the skincare line includes the Replenishing Cream Cleanser; which effectively removes makeup and dirt, leaving my skin feeling clean and fresh but also well moisturised. Not only does it gently cleanse and moisturize, it also provides eight hours of continuous hydration.

The cleanser features ingredients such as Rosehip Oil to gently wash away impurities & improve the health of your skin. It’s also been enhanced with Kakadu Plum, an ingredient which is supercharged with Vitamin C and one I have used more frequently in the kitchen since discovering it’s unique qualities.

I recently added it to my ice cream when I was creating recipes for a Natural Instinct lunch and it tasted sensational! You can watch the video about how to make the yummy icecream here.   It’s the perfect ingredient for skin clarity and has powerful antioxidant qualities too.

I also love to use the Restoring Night Cream which is full of lovely anti-ageing essential oils, providing extra nourishment while I sleep. It provides twelve hours of continuous hydration and is antioxidant rich to deeply nourish and hydrate the skin, promoting healthy skin elasticity so when you wake up your skin feels totally replenished and has a radiant glow.

As well as Kakadu plum, moisturizing sweet almond oil is featured in the night cream which not only smells delicious but can help to firm up crow’s feet, wrinkles and any areas of pigmentation while you sleep!

To find out more about Natural Instinct skincare products you can visit their website here.

Did you know that Natural Instinct products are formulated free from over 400 potentially harmful ingredients? The full list of these ingredients can be found here.

Natural Instinct Sunscreen Range

The Natural Instinct Sunscreen Range are fantastic go-to sun protection products to use during the hot summer months when the sizzle factor is high.

The brand new range, featuring three, truly natural SPF30 sunscreen products for the whole family is another reason to stay sun smart this summer especially when you have natural options at your fingertips.

Natural Instinct’s sunscreen range, includes an Invisible Natural Sunscreen SPF30, a Tinted Face Natural Sunscreen SPF30 and Kids Natural Sunscreen SPF30, and is ideal for those concerned about the effects of harsh chemicals that can often be found in non-natural, synthetic chemical based sunscreens.

Using mineral based sunscreens on your face and body, is more nourishing on the skin and reduces the chance of irritation due to the gentle ingredients used.

Natural Instinct’s new sunscreen range offers three hours of water resistance, making it well suited for active families who want to get outdoors and make the most out of the summer months.Screen Shot 2015-10-22 at 3.41.52 pm

For a very affordable price you can have access to lightweight, synthetic chemical free and non-greasy products that are free from harmful ingredients that can potentially leech into the blood through the skin like parabens, toxic UVA blocker octyl methoxycinnamate and hormone disrupting Benzophenone.

The sunscreen range uses the natural mineral zinc oxide, that acts as a physical blocker, reflecting harmful UVA and UVB rays (unlike synthetic chemical based sunscreens that absorb UVA / UVB rays) to provide a safe and effective barrier to UV rays.

Known for its effective, broad-spectrum coverage and non-comedogenic properties, Zinc Oxide provides full coverage sun protection without irritating the skin – making it the perfect choice for sensitive skin types.

The new children’s range is also a brilliant product for parents; leaving a white, protective layer on the skin so you can ensure that you aren't leaving any areas of young children’s delicate skin exposed to potential sunburn risks.

I vote the sunscreen range an all round wonderful product offering that suits all skin types and is a great choice for families.

Natural Instinct’s new Invisible Natural Sunscreen SPF30, Tinted Face Natural Sunscreen SPF30 and Kids Natural Sunscreen SPF30 range is available in leading pharmacies, including Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist, Good Price, Terry White Chemists.

Did you know that Natural Instinct products are formulated free from over 400 potentially harmful ingredients? The full list of these ingredients can be found here.

Aqua Farm Fish Tank

Written by lee on . Posted in Natural Products, Reviews

b00cn52trm.pt07

This product is one of the cutest I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. The Aqua Farm Fish Tank is such a cool concept; it is a closed-loop sustainable Aquaponics system that uses the waste of the fish to grow plants and clean its water. It's a fish tank that literally grows food!

The unit is a scaled-down table-top Aquaponics system. Aquaponics is an ancient sustainable method of farming developed by the Aztecs. It uses NINETY PERCENT less water than traditional farming methods and combines aquaculture (raising fish and other aquatic animals) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water).

The bottom of the compact unit is a three-gallon fish tank. Fish produce waste that contains ammonia, a substance that can be toxic for them at high levels. In this system, their waste is then pumped through an inner tube in the tank into a grow tray up above that contains plants.

The plant roots act as a biofilters where beneficial bacteria break down the harmful ammonia in the fish’s waste into nitrites and then finally nitrates which are absorbed as food by the plants. The remaining clean water is then circulated back into the fish tank so all you have to do is feed the fish … there is absolutely zero cleaning required! How convenient is that?

There really is no more sustainable way to grow your own greens at home. You can grow anything from parsley, coriander, mint, rocket, mixed greens, to wheat grass.

This is such a nifty gift to introduce some greenery into the home of someone who lives in an apartment or unit block. This adorable unit is perfect for any space in the kitchen, classroom or office.

It’s also great for kids. Not only are you giving them THAT pet they’ve been hounding you for, you’re also encouraging them to eat healthy, fresh produce, all whilst teaching them about sustainable food production methods.

This is a great fuss-free addition to any household.

Ibsens Hotel Copenhagen

Written by lee on . Posted in Natural Products, Reviews

ibsens 1 On my recent book tour through the UK for my new book Eat Clean, Green and Vegetarian, I stopped off in Copenhagen on my way back home to discover a little piece of Denmark that I had always wanted to visit.  It’s been on my list of places to go for as long as I can remember.
On doing some online research I decided to take my lodgings up at Ibsens Hotel, because it was affordable on my budget and close to the city on the Northern part of town, surrounded by the canal and a huge park.  It turned out to be a fantastic location and one that allowed me to discover Copenhagen very easily by bicycle, as there was a bike hire shop just around the corner.  Handy!
 ibsens 7
It really is such a magical city, albeit a tad colder than what I’m used to in Sydney. Think zero degree nights!
Ibsens Hotel is centrally located, so handy in fact; it’s just a short five minute walk to the famous Copenhagen food markets Torvehallern, and to the central city train station.
The markets are fantastic, and located in what looks like massive green houses, bursting with stalls of wonderful fresh produce, juice bars and healthy and nutritious eateries with options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
ibsens 9
There's also a cute cafe across the road called Kalaset with great food and a warm atmosphere.  Think whimsical vintage charm, hot chocolate with marshmallows and a veggie filled soup or daily special.
 img_6037
Once I have gathered my bearings, I hired a bike and used that as my mode of transport for my entire stay, zipping around the city in no time to see famous sights, such as The Little Mermaid and the Royal Palace Amalienborg and the charming waterfront town of Nyhaven lined with bustling restaurants and cafes.
 IMG_2038
IMG_2050 The Ibsen has a range of room options quaintly named by their size- Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large and Suites. I stayed in a large room which was comfortable and beautifully decorated with a combination of soft material and timber furnishings.

Fortunately there was heating available for the cold nights ensuring that my toes and fingers and other body parts were warm and cosy and not subject to chilblains!
One of the wonderful benefits of staying at Ibsens Hotel, was the phenomenal  breakfast.  Every morning I would wake to the smell of freshly brewing organic coffee and baked granola, one of the many items available on their daily breakfast buffet menu.

But this is nowhere near a mass produced buffet.  At the Ibsen they pride themselves on providing meals filled with seasonal produce with the freshest ingredients that are sourced locally with the names of their origin on little placards for you to see.  They also offer yoghurt and fresh fruit cups, sliced meat platters, cheeses and a selection of pastries and hearty, grainy breads.
Ibsens’ boasts an adjoining spa which offers a relaxing sauna, steam baths and hot tubs.  If you’re in the mood for relaxation, there are a large range of treatments available including foot spas, the perfect antidote after a long day out exploring Copenhagen by bicycle and one that your feet will rejoice in.

At night happy hour runs in the dining area with complimentary drinks.  You can relax in the lobby in front of the beautiful open fireplace with large armchairs and couches and listen to records on the old school record player, just the perfect place to make your home away from home.

Taking time out whilst travelling to have some time to yourself is very important to ensure that you don’t get run down and have time to reflect on the amazing journey you are currently on, being mindful and in the moment is a must and Ibsens Hotel provides the perfect place to do just that.

Forage Cereal

Written by lee on . Posted in Food & Drinks, Natural Products, Reviews

Forage I love it when a yummy breakfast cereal hits my desk and it’s rare that one does that’s healthy and still tastes good.
For all those with a penchant for paleo, Forage Paleo cereal will fit right into your caveman or woman pantry and being grain free, having no added sugar and packed with good fats of almonds and macadamia nuts you’ll be getting benefits of prehistoric proportions.
for·age- (noun)- The act of look or searching for food or provisions… … and that is exactly what the team at Forage Cereal have done- searched high and low for great quality ingredients that compliment each other to make a range of delicious breakfast cereals that are sure to provide you with enough energy to get you through your day.
Forage has four different cereals available. Often after eating a bowl of cereal you can feel heavy and bloated, but after my bowl of Forage Cereal served with my homemade nut milk I felt energized, satisfied and ready for the day ahead.
Forage Bircher and Porridge are the other two cereals in the range.  Often with Bircher muesli you can end up with an indistinguishable bowl of mush that works well as a poly-filler but on your gut, not so much! Forage Bircher features macadamia nuts, almonds and cranberries to ensure that you can gather morsels of flavor and texture with every scoop.
Check out the Forage website where you can find out the nutritional benefits of the range and also buy online.
